Nicole is Australian and Euan is from Scotland. It is just for Euan’s home country that the couple decided for a blue and white schemed wedding.

Blue and white recalls the legendary St. Andrew’s Cross national flag of Scotland. This is one of the most ancient flags in the world dated back to 800 a.c. Flag is made of a diagonal cross representing St. Andrew Martyrdom’s cross on a blue background. St. Andrew is the patron saint of all Scotland. Blue and White are in all national sports wears of Scotland starting from national soccer team.

In Nicole and Euan’s wedding blue and white were just everywhere: in floral arrangements, on flower girl’s dresses and in Nicole’s bridal bouquet. This was a special cascade bouquet that Monika – La Piccola Selva Floral designer – created with white roses and blue gentianas.

The event was coordinated and planned by our wedding planner Valentina Lombardi who works on Lake Orta and Lake Maggiore. Valentina will tell us more about this event.

A very special interesting and sweet couple!
Euan is Scottish and beautiful Nicole is Austalian they both live and work in Dubai. For their special day they opted for Italy because they simply love the food the rustic and quaint atmosphere and also because Euan worked here for about one year.
Nicole also wanted a wedding by the waters of the sea or the lake. Putting all these elements together we thought that Orta could be perfect, so intimate, medieval, romantic and just on the lake shores!

Nicole for her wedding wanted something classical and chic with a timeless elegance theme just like Grace Kelly times. Orta architecture touched their hearts with its facades, narrow roads, pastel colors of houses and little details like the iron gate of the town hall and coat of arms.

When Nicole and Euan looked at Black and White Orta article with Alfonso Longobardi’s photos the finally decided that Orta was more than perfect and Alfonso was going to be the one taking care about their wedding pictures!

As usual civil ceremony was held in the garden of Villa Bossi. Groom and groomsmen wore their traditional kilt, white and blue were everywhere for a day Lake Orta become a little strip of Scottish Highlands!

Have a look to wonderful white little dress of the flowergirls with a blue belt and ribbon on their waist.

After the ceremony bride and groom had a lovely boat tour with a motorboat reaching St. Julius Island. Alfonso Longobardi took a lot of portraits. Great shots from the very famous photographer coming from Naples.

The reception has been set in the garden of Villa Crespi with famous Lake Orta Moorish Villa on the background. Frescoes and decorations and the high minaret are the perfect setting for an elegant reception like Nicole really wanted.
Villa Crespi is also well known for its 2 Michelin Stars restaurant a dinner you cannot forget!

It was special also for wedding images: Helen and Daehun chose Luca Rajna – Ajn Luca Rajna Progetti Fotografici – as their photographer. We met him in occasion of Loretta and Scott’s wedding on Lake Maggiore last year. Luca Rajna is a creative and innovative photographer.

For this occasion all images has been edited with a special technique called Polaroid Transfer.
Polaroid is the legendary camera of the 70s which was able to develop pictures immediately.
Polaroid transfer technique is simply pressing a just-shot photo with a Polaroid on watercolor paper. The result is really artistic an vintage with some irregolar shaped edges. Luca Rajna created the same effect for great shots of Helen and Daheun’s wedding. Have a look to PHOTO GALLERY with 70 polaroid transfers photo in it.

Helen was born in Illinois she is optimist and loves nature. She is vegetarian and loves colors and scent of flowers. After her degree to Columbia University in Manhattan she moved to South Corea where met Daehun her groom.
Helen loves South Corea and people there. After the wedding she came back over there where she teach English to elementary school to Siheung City.

Helen wanted to get married and have a lovely honeymoon across Europe. She never been over here.
It was not easy choose the right destination… then browsing on the internet Helen found out Italian Lakes Wedding and decided immediately for Madonna del Sasso church.

This lovely church was built on a rock right above Lake Orta. Madonna del Sasso church is one of the most wanted churches on the lakes and one of the most scenographic in Italy.
The inside of the church is grand, rich of works of art of 1500 and 1600.

Helen and Daehun’s wedding was intimate and simple.
Together with the couple there were only Helen’s parents, two bridesmaids (Maria Isabel and Stephanie) and Katie bride’s best friend.

There was another guest: Nellie the cute doggy girl who is the guide of Helen’s mother Wilma who is sightless.
For this reason Helen chose for the church arrangements lavander and freesias so her mother could smell the perfume of the nature!

Deep love for nature also for the bridal dress choice. it was really eco friendly.

Helen describes it like this:

My dress is made by Lindee Daniel, who is in California. It is made from two types of organic peace silk. This means, the silk worms are allowed to naturally complete their life cycle rather than being boiled alive so as to preserve the cocoons. The silk is woven by a women’s cooperative in India. Her label used to be called Puridee, but now she is changing it to her name, Lindee Daniel. The design I got is called the “Rebecca,” named after Rebecca from the Bible. It is her most popular design. She made it to measure for me and mailed it to me in Korea. 

I wanted an organic dress, so it made shopping for one easier. I didn’t have to look at millions and millions. I fell in love with this dress as soon as I found it, which was only the second day I started searching online for dresses.

Cuff Helen wore was really original. It was created by Estonian artist Krista Silvia Raak.

I am inspired from different vintage materials and of course – colors! I love all colors and feel excited about to create different color harmonies. I get lots of ideas from historical costumes- ball gowns and accessories of past centuries-Baroque, Victorian Era and Art Nouveau rich decorated dresses and elaborate embroideries. Sometimes I watch movies over and over to see beautiful vintage dresses exposed there : I love embroidered flowers- roses, orchids and all kind of fantasy flora. Old mansion interiors, antique costume jewelry and vintage millinery techniques are an endless source of inspiration.

Helen adds:

The cuff is by Krista Raak in Estonia. Her cuffs are unique designs, hand embroidered and beaded from vintage materials. She also made the earrings worn by my friend Katie in the flowered dress. The hair comb is from Million Design Company in the UK.

Ceremony in Madonna del Sasso church was really cosy accompanied by touching Psalm 104 of the Holy Bible read by Maria Isabel.
There was a light Smentana’s Moldau music as background played by a string duo. Smentana’s Moldau was written by Bohemian composer Bedrich Smetana, ad brought to fame by Italian tenor Giuseppe Cenci with Fuggi fuggi da questo cielo as title.

The violins also played the Bach Double [violin concerto], first movement. It brought back a lot of memories for me and my mom of Suzuki Institutes at Steven’s Point, WI.

At the end of the ceremony Helen and Daehun went out of the church with Mendlesshon Wedding March as background. Their guest threw petals and lavender. Mother of the bride Wilma was more then happy!

Nellie the little dog wanted to join the party too. Isn’t it cute this picture her paw together with bride and bridesmaids?

Madonna del Sasso church yard is a special place to have wonderful pictures and Helen and Daehun did not want to miss the occasion!

Bridal bouquet was really lovely. It reflected the spirit of Helen and Daehun’s wedding.
It was created by Paola one of the floral designer of La Piccola Selva with Red Passion roses and amazing Dominique callas in a bordeaux-purple shade.

Helen and Daehun reception has been arranged on St. Julius Island and cruising from Orta to the Island Daehun was the captain of the ferry too!

We told you about many times about St. Julius Island, it is a magic and ideal for more wedding pictures.
St Julius restaurant hosted bride and groom with their guests with a vegetarian and perfect eco-friendly menu.

When lights went down the group got back to Orta village.
On Summer nights Orta is really lively and appealing. Helen and Daehun took another chance to remember forever their special eco-friendly wedding on Lake Orta.

Italian Lakes Wedding Team follow the event with Valentina Lombardi and Stefania Zen as coordinators. Stefania Zen is our planner on Lake Bracciano and Rome but she often follows some weddings over Northen Lakes. So for once she forgot about Sistine Chapel and Odescalchi Castle to get into romantic atmospheres of Lake Orta… but always with a great success!

Religious ceremony was held to Sacro Monte of Ghiffa.
Julie and Thomas’ big day had a light shower very unusual for August period.
But this did not ruin the day at all. They could enjoy Sacro Monte park with its secular trees and ancient chapels.

The reception was held in closer Villa Volpi. The villa was built back in first years of 1900 facing Lake Maggiore. Rooms inside are wonderful with antique furnitures and pictures.

Bellagio, the beautiful small Town located in front of Lenno promontory, was chosen as ‘departure point’. Bride and groom, together with relatives and friends slept at the prestigious Grand Hotel Villa Serbelloni. They to left it with a private boat, crossing the lake toward the small pier of Cadenabbia Ascension Church.

Anglican Church of Cadenabbia is an authentic architecture jewel studied by young Italian architect Giuseppe Brentalo. Church has been completed and consecrate in 1891, it was built over the ruins of an antique chapel located inside the Hotel Bellevue park.

The wedding ceremony was very touching, thanks also to ladies voices choir who accompanied hymns and thanks to music of string quartet as background.
Flowers decoration was very refined,too. It was planned all on white tones, in a profusion of roses, Lisianthus and daisies.

To note the stunning Gypsophila chains which adorned the Church benches and the white roses petals all over the floor, from the main entrance to the major altar.

At the end of the ceremony, after the usual kisses and congratulations, Kristi and Ben got on a motorboat from Church pier which was waiting for them. They were followed by a ferry with all the relatives and friends on board. Destination: Villa del Balbianello.

Villa del Balbianello dock is something really unique and evocative. It is characterized by elaborated wrought iron gates and it is dominated by 4 columns on which are located enormous amphorae. From here a little parh conducts to the Villa which dominates the area from a hill, surrounded by a panoramic terraced garden.

But real masterpiece of Villa del Balbianello is the elegant three arcades Loggia, thickly covered by a majestic Ficus Repens. The Loggia allows a double landscape: Tremezzina on one side (central lake) and on the other side basin toward Comacina Island.

Gorgeous Italian Style gardens are the real breathtaking part of the villa. They gradually go down to the Lake and they are all very detailed where numerous plane trees, pruned in a chandelier shape, stand out: what a fabulous scenery for the newlyweds and their guests!

After a rich aperitif served under the Loggia an elegant dinner followed. It was arranged in the elegant Pavillion on the lake.
To be noticed the fantastic centerpieces created in high ‘Martini’ glasses: an authentic floral cascade with long white Phalaenopsis orchids stems, together with Lisianthus and green Molucella.

The party continued between dances, speeches and toast until the final apotheosis of the fireworks on the lake.
A fantastic end of a real unforgettable wedding at Villa del Balbianello!

As floral designer I really appreciated bride’s approach towards me. Even if she gave me precise information on her color scheme, she totally trusted me giving me wide freedom on style and shapes for her floral arrangement. This gave me the opportunity to express myself without being to tight on fixed schemes. I believe that for a floral designer is could be the best way to create and express her skills.

Chiara and Stefano’s big day was arranged on Lake Maggiore. Photographers Manuele and Laurence of Studio Foto Benaglia followed the days with their pictures. The followed the group from the early hours of the day until very late at night. This great italian-french couple of photographer realized a lovely natural and spontaneous reportage service taking every single detail of the day. From Veneto to Piemonte region: Chiara and Stefano reached Lake Maggiore from Treviso in Veneto region, just like at least half of their guests. Chiara was born in Arona and her heart was set here and Stefano fell in love with this lovely town too. So they opted for Lake Maggiore for their destination wedding. All guests loved this choice they did not know how beautiful could be our magic lake.

Chiara choose red for her wedding theme color. Deep red for flowers, invitations, and wedding shoes. Cherry red for a fantastic organza roses fall on her wedding dress. A very original dress for sure! Chiara designed it and she could realize it thanks to the help of Rosanna, the owner of a little atelier in Feltre on foot of Belluno Dolomites.
The shoulder cover, bustier and part of the skirt were mad of laces with plisse’ tulle. Main feature was roses fall in cherry red that started from waist point to create a little train.
Simply wonderful!

Groom opted for a tailor made suit, too. He was surely elegant and handsome.

Chaira and Stefano got married on October 10 on a wonderful warm day similar to summer time. Religious ceremony was held in Santi Martiri Church in Arona, also known as San Graziano church. Church is located in highest part of the town and has a baroque facade and Gothic nave inside. One of the most beautiful detail is the lovely staircase that from San Graziano square leads to church’s entrance.

Floral arrangement was really detailed. On side of aisle red carpet I placed a series of balloon shaped Buxus enriched with red roses and white Gerberas. I also added scattered rose petals on the floor and little bouquets on the pews.

On white marble balusters I created different height arrangements, just in the middle between ancient and modern style. On a white Gerberas and Monstera leaves base I placed Passion Roses on different levels and on side of them I added some Bear Grass.

Wonderful Passion Roses were on long Chiara’s bouquet. I also added bear grass and most of all some ivy and Beucarnea to give an accent to falling effect of the arrangement. As final touch I inserted a cherry red ribbon using same fabric of bridal dress.

After the ceremony Chiara and Stefano left for the reception on a vintage Corvette to reach Grand Hotel Bristol in Stresa.

Before reaching their guests they took a romantic walk on lake side in Stresa where Laurence and Manuele photographers had the occasion to take wonderful shots collecting great images. You can see some of them here. Click here to see complete photogallery.

Table chart to Grand Hotel Bristol was original too. On a floral base I added some red hearts on several levels. I attached on them tables names using lovely butterfly shaped pins.

The party ended with the great four tiers cake made of hundreds of Chantilly cream bignè with strawberries, blackberries and red berries.

As floral designer I can say that it was a real pleasure for me having the occasion to work on Chiara and Stefano’s wedding. Such a nice couple! One of the best wedding of 2009 on Lake Maggiore.

Kerstin and Wolfgang came from Düsseldorf and wished to get married at Bardolino. Why especially Bardolino and not any other village around Lake Garda? They had often been to this place and hat lots of wonderful memories, so they wanted to relighten all this nice thoughts from the former years of their life together.

Kerstin, the bride came up with a very special colour for her flowers, it was a dark lilac and shoes and bag in gold, so the flowers hat to fit this combination. How perfect the flowers were, so bride and bouquet were shining and the groom had his little buttonhole.

The civil ceremony was inside the Town Hall of Bardolino which is quite cool from the interior design. So I brought some ribbons and some petals to have the inside decorated and welcoming the couple warmly. My assistant had to be the one witness, as they were only accompanied by their mum.
To lighten up the ceremony, that consists mainly of the legal articles to be read out, I was prepared with a poem, Kahil Gibrain who talks about marriage in his famous book “the prophet”.

When coming out of the Town Hall, the first task was to surround 3 times the old captains table made of stone, as it is said this will bring luck to newlyweds.

We had a photographer that was taking pictures of the bride and groom all over Bardolino until they stopped an hour later to have a toast with Italian Prosecco and canapèes in the cafè next to the lake.
And then there waited their little boat, in wooden shape, to bring them back to their hotel and relax, before in the evening they would have been able to enjoy their private dinner at their hotel.

Just another way of enjoying very intensively the wedding day, as no guest and no big timetable to follow – they loved this day and will take it in their hearts forever. And I am happy that again I could help a couple realize what they dreamt of.

My first wedding of Summer Season 2009 was Amy and Tom’s: 3rd July 2009. Amy arrived some days before to settle in Orta and define some last details.

She spent some lovely days before the event, with her parents and family in a lovely villa on the lake that I often suggest to my couples. It is just in front of Ortello Gulf.

And finally the wedding day came!
Amy and her father took a nice walk from the lovely house on the shores to reach village church. Tom, flower girls, purple dressed bridesmaids and all guests were all waiting for her there. Lilac was the theme of whole wedding.

Amy choose this wonderful color for her main theme and Monika Andenmatten from La Piccola Selva created wonderful arrangements to accomplish her desires. She based her work on a color palette going from white to purple-lilac. Monika created wonderful church arrangements for the balusters and external columns of the church itself.

At the end of the ceremony… just a lovely kiss of bride and groom! Photographer Andrea Dapueto took a wonderful shot of it. Andrea Dapueto was the perfect reporter for such a wonderful event.

Amy and Tom walked to Orta Main Square to congratulate with relatives and friends.

After many kisses and hugs, Amy and Tom decided to take some time for themselves on a motorboat to reach St. Julius Island.

A very special mention to bride’s dress. Amy choose a simple dress for sure but it was very detailed indeed! It had on laces and bright crystals matching tiara in her hair. Tom had on a wonderful Italian suite, what else? Perfect Italian style.

We can not forget about bridal bouquet! Simply amazing!
Monika created for Amy a romantic teardrop bouquet based on bride’s colors. It matched perfectly bridesmaids’ dresses, groom’s tie and many other details. Monika used mainly Roses, Lisyanthus Eustoma in many shades from white to purple-lilac. Final touch were falling Bear Grass and ivy greenery that gave a romantic and vintage touch to the bouquet. All was studied in perfect harmony with bridal dress and style of the event.

Right after their boat trip, bride and groom reached their guests to Hotel San Rocco for a nice aperitif on the terrace accompanied by classical music and followed by a gourmand dinner prepared by skillful chef and his staff.

Monika Andenmatten created lovely centerpieces for dinner reception. They were simple but elegant with floating candles and flowers such as rose blossoms, Hyrdangea petals and Steel Grass on a base of little stones similar to little diamonds.

Thanks to wonderful a summer night, party continued on the terrace with music, dances and lot of fun under a wonderful sky of Lake Orta.

Maria and Chris chose to celebrate their ceremony in the garden of Villa Bossi first and the in the wonderful church of Assunta for a moving blessing.

Maria and Chris’ wedding was a simple and cosy event, they just wanted to have it this way! They came here with few friends and close family from United Kingdom.
Maria and Chris decided to arrange a different event but at the same time it was really really romantic!

For once in Orta history bride did not arrived by boat but from narrow and medieval roads in Orta village.
She was with her father and at their arrival a lovely flower girls was waiting for her as a surprise!

The ceremony was held in front of few people and it was very touching!

After the ceremony bride and groom with their guests took they road in Orta to reach Maria Assunta church one of the pearls of this medieval village.

Maria and Chris arrived in front of the church on the top of the hill among Orta inhabitants’ congratulations and smiles.

In the church Maria and Chris wanted a blessing that was performed by their own parish priest who come directly from UK for the occasion.

Bridal bouquet was created by Monika Andenmattern, La Piccola Selva’s flower designer.
She followed Maria’s wishes and created a tear drop bouquet using colors Maria loved. It was made of red roses and cream lilies.

Wedding reception was organized in a traditional restaurant inside ancient part of Orta village. Here bride groom and their guests tasted a totally eco-firendly menu close to the local traditions.
Tables for reception followed the same style Maria wanted for the ceremony and bridal bouquet.
They were enriched with sweet favors for guests: little organza bags with delicious heart shaped chocolates.

An intimate and evocative party, in a real Italian style.
Wedding cake at the end was a romantic two tiers one prepared by Costantino Guardia, maitre chocolatier di Torino.

Loretta and Scott are a very nice couple from England who decided to get married at Lake Maggiore. Both have origins in Italy, both are born in London but the bride’s parents are from Parma and Piacenza and the groom’s father is British but his mother is from Salerno.

Both have Italian origins, that’s why they met for the first time in St Peter’s Italian church in London. After 9 years finally they wished to become husband and wife. Their decision to come to Italy for the wedding was crystal clear, but where? They wanted somewhere which is neither near his or her family backgrounds, so it was the beautiful setting of Villa Rusconi Clerici and the fantastic landscape around Lake Maggiore.

Their choice of photographer was also made with the highest attention, he had to be professional, very special and with a photo-reportage style. Indeed, it is very important to select a good photographer, because what he is producing will last forever.

So it was Luca Rajna, one of the most appreciated and best photographers in the lakes area.

The church for the wedding was San Leonardo’s at Pallanza, built in 1537, it overlooks the Piazza San Leonardo and the lakeshore.
For the flowers Loretta wanted a focus on the main altar with 2 large compositions of ivory Rose Vendela on some high basements of metal.

Then some smaller compositions combined with tulle and organza in white, emerald green and ivory on the ends of each row of pews. This was the colour theme throughout all the decoration, sometimes added by a touch of lilac.

The bridal bouquet of Loretta was round and very compact and resembled the colours used in church, from the white and ivory of the roses into the emerald green of the ribbons that hold it all together, decorated with some pearls here and there.

A fantastic advantage of this church was the small walking distance to Villa Rusconi Clerici, just 300m.
For Loretta and Scott it was easy to decide for the Villa Rusconi Clerici, they were in love with the location from the beginning. It is really a wonderful place as the villa is situated directly on the shore of the lake, has splendid views and a huge garden. As the wedding day was very warm, the welcome drinks were prepared outside on the lakeshore. Accompanied with some wonderful music from a string quartet.

The dinner itself was inside the white gazebo, this is an elegant structure of tents finished with metal that was normally used at the beginning of the 19th hundred century.

Here the theme of the wedding was taken from well known Italian-American films like “La dolce vita” from Federico Fellini, “Once upon a time” from Sergio Leone and “Cinema Paradiso” from Giuseppe Tornatore.

For the decoration on the tables we used compositions that were based on glass structures and around them petals of roses and tealights. But I surely will return and speak more about this part of the marvellous decoration.

When the dinner ended, everybody went over to the tavern where they danced until the early morning.

During the evening, Villa Rusconi Clerici has a very special attraction with all the lights you see along the lake and with a quiet island in front of the villa that gives a romantic touch. What is more exciting for a flower designer than to work in such a wonderful location?

First of all pretty Kerry opted for a trendy wedding dress for sure.

Her designer made it for her and she did such a wonderful job.

It was an ivory prom dress with little details in yellow, just like the sun: a little embroidery on the bustier, a big ribbon at the back and lovely details for the under-skirt.

Kerry also wore a tiara with veil and pretty rounded pointed shoes.

For her bouquet Kerry decided for a round classic shape which has always appeal. Monika Andenmatten floral designer created for her a perfect match between white and yellow roses to go with the same colors of the dress.

The groom too, Alistair, was really handsome in his light grey kilt as Scottish tradition wants.

For their religious ceremony Kerry and Alistair chose Sacro Monte church on the top of the hill just up Orta village.

Group was very intimate. In order to reach the church bridegroom and their guests decided to use traditional Orta touristy train.

First to take it were the guys and then the girls with the bride.

Scenery you can see from Sacro Monte is so evocative. Panorama is just breathtaking, St. Julius Island seems like drawn on lake’s waters.

Sacro Monte church was built during 1500 and it is dedicated to St. Francis, who is also the Saint who protects Italy.
It is located at the top on a Natural Reserve park where you could find secular trees and wonderful paths to walk in.

Religious ceremony has been really intimate with just the sound of a celtic harp in the background.

After some wedding pictures around the chapels of Sacro Monte, group take again little train to get back to famous piazzetta of Orta village (main square) where boats pier is.

Some other pictures across traditional roads of Orta villa…

…and then a wondeful boat trip with aperitif served on board.

Staring Orta from the waters could be even more lovely. A new fairy tale perspective even more colorful, pretty.

Romantic wedding dinner was held to the little restaurant on St. Julius Island the only venue there. View is simply amazing and receptions can be held on the terrace directly on the shores.

Terrace was decorated with colors Kerry loved and chose. There was a wonderful royal table with yellow organza table cloth, romantic fairy lights and celtic harp sound in the backgrounds.

A real Italian atmosphere, rustic but elegant at the same time. Just like the couple was.

Wedding party had the occasion to look at an unforgettable sunset on the lake and taste a gourmand dinner with traditional Piemonte courses and wines.

Just a new and undiscovered corner of Italy!
