A Wedding in Verona… between elegance and simplicity

Verona is an very ancient city full of charm and elegance just steps from Lake Garda.

wedding at Arena di Verona

Verona is the synonym of Romeo and Juliet’s romantic idyll.

wedding in Romeo and Juliet's balcony VeronaThe heart of Verona is a jewel with infinite faces, with its wonderful cafes and historical monuments, winding cobblestone roads, churches, squares, castle and slow river that flows through it.

Everywhere you walk you will find a path that will take you to one of the oldest theatre in the world: the Arena, still beautifully preserved.

Elegance of the past that you breathe in this city is a perfect frame for a charming wedding!

To Matteo and Martina it all seemed natural choosing the elegance of this noble city for their ceremony and the relaxed and joyful frame of Lake Garda for the reception.

This is to combine two different souls and we are sure you will love both of them.

Martina’s grace illuminated everything, as well as her wonderful smile!

Her long white dress, her hair softly gathered by impalpable white flowers and only a pretty bow on shoes… Final preparations for the bride and everything is ready.

There are many couples who decide for a very intimate wedding.
If you are looking for a romantic wedding for two you could consider many ideas such cities of art like Rome – as Stefania mentioned in her past post – some exotic beaches or isolated villages.
However if you love lakes but want to keep it private, romantic and unique Lake Orta could be the perfect choice!

Orta is a pretty little village. It is completely pedestrian, medieval, facing quiet lake and it is tiny St. Julius Island.

Best option is a romanic civil ceremony to Villa Bossi. We suggest to opt for a wedd day when narrow roads of Orta village are less crowded and more intimate.
You will discover real Italy here. You can choose to get ready in one of the lovely hotels in Orta overlooking the lake.

Bride could arrive alone with a rowing boat while groom is waiting for her to Villa Bossi. Just like Suzanne and Russell did.

Discovering historical hotels on Lake Maggiore

If you want to arrange your wedding on Lake Maggiore, one of the possibility could be choosing one of the wonderful hotels on the coast.
Welcoming tourists coming from all over the world is a long tradition here, begun back in 1700 and 1800. During Belle Époque times many aristocrats coming from Europe used to come to Lake Maggiore to enjoy wonderful view and deep Italian savour.

The ones who read Hemingway know that one of his most famous novel – Farwell to Arms – has been set on Lake Maggiore. Many other artists and intellectuals loved this place and have been inspired by deep waters surrounded by Alps and stunning vegetation. We can remember Flaubert, Wagner, Goethe, Oscar Wilde, G.B. Shaw and many others.

Our trip discovering historical hotels on Lake Maggiore begins from Stresa. The most famous destination is Grand Hotel des Iles Borromées for sure. It faces lake shore right into a wide secular park. From its rooms you will enjoy a wonderful view on Borromean Islands and Alps. The hotel garden host a famous and wonderful marble fountain one of the most known places in Stresa.

Regina Palace Hotel is very famous too. It was opened in 1908 and recently renewed. Regina Palace is a leading liberty style hotel that was able to keep the same appeal and atmosphere of fin de siècle. A wonderful garden surrounds the hotel, the ideal set for stunning wedding pictures.

Grand Hotel Bristol is the only neoclassical building on Stresa Lake sidewalk. Hotel Bristol is very elegant and fine. It has all luxury and leading hotel features: boiserie, rich tapestries, crystal and marble chandeliers and even glass domes and wonderful carpets. Outdoor swimming pool is right into a rich park overlooking Isola Bella.

It combines modern structures comforts to traditional and romantic style that has delighted visitors for more than a century. Queen Victoria stayed here during her visit in 1879 and Winston Churchill choose it to spend his honeymoon.

Going North we would like to suggest a wonderful Hotel. It is one of the few with direct access to the lake. It is located in Pallanza just in front of little Island of San Giovanni. Grand Hotel Majestic is just few steps from Pallanza center walking distance or boat distance from town hall where you could set your lovely civil ceremony.

You will enjoy a lovely aperitif in the garden of the hotel or on one of the terraces and a gourmand dinner to follow in beautiful Toscanini Room that can host up to 150 people. Spring Wedding in Stresa

victoria.jpg

Our wedding was in spring which I thought should be reflected in the floral scheme. I had some very unique and specific ideas regarding what I wanted which unfortunately meant I couldn’t simply show a florist a photograph and ask her to copy it.
I spent a lot of time with Monika explaining my vision and I think the challenge of trying out something new appealed to her. She was prepared to follow my requests but wasn’t afraid to give her input. We had to have a contingency plan in case the flowers I wanted weren’t available at the time of the wedding so it was nice to be given updates as to what was in the bloom the weeks before the big day.

The result was spectacular – my first tears on my wedding day was when I saw my bouquet! Monika is a perfectionist and I could tell on the day that he too was pleased with her work.

Of course, I couldn’t have achieved such results without Clara who firstly introduced us and secondly spent endless hours translating between the two of us and coordinating with the other suppliers so they would know how their products (car, wedding cake etc.) would be presented. Just when I thought things couldn’t get any better, I arrived back from honeymoon to see that mine was bouquet of the month!

We were so scared our wedding would fly by that we decided to have a weekend of celebrations instead of a day. Felix worked tirelessly the entire weekend so that we now have an excellent reportage of the entire time, from the preparations right through to the celebrations. By the end he had lots of new friends (he was more of a guest than a photographer!) and we have some of the most amazing photos.
