We have to remember that Villa del Balbianello was the movie set of famous Star Wars Episode II – Attack of the Clones.
Star Wars lovers surely know that this villa was named like Lake Retreat in the movie and it is where Padme and Anikin Skywalker hid while Obi One Kenobi traked down those responsible for attempting to Amidala’s life. But most of al,l for our story, it is where secret marriage of Anakin Skywalker and Amidala took place.

Hilde and Jean Erik chose for their staying luxurious Grand Hotel Tremezzo where both of them got and ready for the wedding while Morlotti photographer was there to take wonderful pictures of the event.
Beautiful bride opted for an unusual and fancy dress short on the front and very long on the back: she really looked like a princess!
We cannot forget to mention our groom Jean Erik who was also very elegant is his morning suit.
However the real surprise was the bridal party! They thought about involving three Star Wars movie characters as you can see in the pictures taken by Morlotti Studio. Aren’t they fun?
They’ve beens surely the main characters immediately after the couple and they gave a special touch to all the event.
All the guests wanted to a picture with them and their presence made lot of ‘rumor’ at Villa del Balbianello and inhabitants of the village clos by for all day.
Their main role was escorting Hilde, who arrived from the lake by boat.
Ceremony setting replicated exactely the famous movie scene, with red flowers and romantic lake view. A dream!

An unforgettable atmosphere, Hilde and Jean Erik exchanged their mutual vows and rings accompanied by classic music notes.
After the ceremony all the group moved to the Loggia for a toast and photo session until sunset.
Everybody was astonished by the beauty of Villa del Balbianello and Lake Como landscapes. Time flew incredibly fast: it’s already time to jump on the boats and reach the reception dinner venue where the party continued till 2am in the morning.

From my point of view, as planner an event like this could be very challenging and fun to coordinate.
I’m really looking for many more ‘Star Wars’ couples: I can’t wait for helping you making your dream comes true!

For this reason they decided to have a little pre wedding photography service, just the two of them to live and explore the little romantic and charming corners of Orta village!
They simply took a walk with their friend Fwad Afzal Photographer in Orta village and got magic pictures that they will never forget!

Niamh and Stephen got married the day after, our last wedding of 2011 summer season.
Niamh was simply beautiful in her romantic dress and have a look to the four bridesmaids too in ivory beige long dresses!
The dresses matched perfectly the color of the flowers Niamh chose for them, ivory cream roses and gerberas created by La Piccola Selva with the other floral arrangements of the day.

Civil Ceremony was held in Villa Bossi, Orta town hall and Niamh and Stepehen were so lucky to have a wonderful weather and many guests present to this special day, about 100 guests!

After a little walk in the little roads of Orta with some drinks for guests and some more fun pictures in the village the whole group took the boats to take a lovely trip on the Lake and then reached the restaurant on St. Julius Island.

In our older posts we showed smaller parties to this rustic restaurant by the shores but the wide terrace can fit up to 100-120 guests and this is what happened for Niamh and Stepen’s wedding!

A great dinner and party to follow with a huge chocolate cake too!

Our couple took also the chance to have a lovely walk on the Island to have some other great shots in this quiet and special place: St. Julius Island.

Built on a volcanic lava cliff drop, the village is located on a little gulf, the secondary crater of an ancient volcano.

When Wei-Ting and Sigfrid first saw Balbianello Villa, they had no doubt: this would have been their Italian wedding venue!
And here we started the whole wedding planning. Groom was very active and enthusiast: it has been a real pleasure working together with them to built the perfect wedding day.
We went through every single detail trying to make a mix of the 2 strong cultures: Italian one and Taiwan one.

Hand-painted parasol, gifts for the guests (Chinese gift for the Italians and Italian gift for the Taiwanese) and all the atmosphere was a perfect combination of different customs for this unforgettable Lake Como wedding.

Sigfrid and Wei-Ting Lake Como fairy tale began with a ‘cinematographic’ setting: the beautiful lake view ceremony, performed in the terrace of the Star Wars movie!
The guests arrived by boat. They picked-up the beautiful parasols and they and attended the ceremony handling the beautiful lace ceremony booklet with the red stamp reporting the names of the couple and the wedding date. This is another Chinese interesting custom!
A special thank to the lovely musicians: they’ve been great! They created a perfect atmosphere for the ceremony!

The celebration continued with a rich aperitif under the Canfora Tree Terrace where delicious drinks and food have been served while the couple took a lovely walk for their wedding pictures together with our great photographer Roberto Rapetti of SilverStars Photography.
I take the opportunity to really thank him and his staff for the great job made with us during the whole season!

The dinner was planned under the magnificent Balbianello Loggia, overlooking Lake Como.
Refined round tables, richly decorated with flowers crowns and floating candles, surprised the guests arriving to take their seats.

Being a small group I suggested bride and groom to change table at each course, in order to share their time with all the guests and they really loved this idea!
During the night they had the opportunity to dine at all the tables and this was highly appreciated from the invited guests.
The whole group really enjoined food, wines and impeccable service.

In the meanwhile the bride opted for a change of dress and wore her Chinese beautiful red bridal dress to show it to the Italian side of the family. She was simply gorgeous and ready for cutting the cake.
The cake was very special indeed! A Modern, squared and finely decorated cake following the bride taste and indications.
Cutting was made on the notes of her favorite Italian song: ‘A te’ by Italian signer Jovanotti.
What a dream!

Another wedding on Lake Como, I remember all of them and I can say everytime for me is just an amazing day!

Barry and Novi are two lovely guys coming from Indonesia and living in Netherlands.
They wanted a very intimate and romantic setting for their winter wedding…. or better for their Christmas Wedding as they got married on December 18th!
They chose Lakes districts!
Some may think that lakes in winter could be less beautiful than in warm moths but for those who love intimate romantic and solitary spots they could be the prefect choice.

Berry and Novi wanted an intimate event so they invited only their parents and Novi’s sister.
They decided to stay in Orta for the getting ready and celebratory meal.
But for their religious ceremony they opted for a very special spot Sacro Monte of Ghiffa on Lake Maggiore.

After Novi got ready in her stunning dress with white fur on her shoulder we all reached Sacred Monte of Ghiffa.
On a sunny winter day the sky on the lake can be clear like crystal and landscape just unique the perfect frame for wedding pictures.

An intimate catholic ceremony was held inside the beautiful church with stunning frescos on the ceilings and a lovely sunset outside waiting for bride and groom.

A little touch of modernity in this wonderful historical and natural context!

After some pictures overlooking Lake Maggiore we drove back to Lake Orta for some other pictures by night in the little village of Orta.
Despite the cold weather Novi and Barry really wanted to have some shots in the village decorated for Christmas with romantic Christmas lights!
Have you ever seen Orta at Christmas? It is so romantic!

For their celebratory meal Barry and Novi choose L’Ustaria Ca dal Rat.
The warm rooms of the restaurant welcome them. With the en lit fireplace, wooden beams on the ceiling and warm atmosphere we can say that that was a perfect choice!
A wonderful way to celebrate Christmas on Lake Orta!

Novi and Barry chose Independent Pictures for their photograph service and they did a great job.. they took the perfect Christmas feeling in their shots!

Another very special thank to La Piccola Selva Team who created wonderful cream and light peach decorations for the church, meal table and cute Novi’s bouquet. It matched perfectly her style.

A wonderful ceremony was prepared, but the most emotional moment were the trumpet music interludes from Cindy’s father and at the end an Italian song presented by one of their best friends being an opera singer.

There is enough outdoor-space to organize a toast afterwards and so we had special champagne from Lussemburg as Cindy parents are coming from there.

After enjoying a while the scenic views one has all over the lake we drove back to Villa Margherita and had the Italian aperitivo in their terraced gardens followed by a seated dinner.

Let me mention our deco-concept: it was all white and a smooth purple. Purple colored Hortensies matched with white Roses and white and lilac Lysianthus.

Very light colors of this were used for the church, whereas at the dinner tables we played with all tonalities, even the dark ones for the compositions matched by candlelight that created a very intimate atmosphere. Thanks to our florist La Piccola Selva.

Next to the dinner tables Villa Margherita installed a wooden dancefloor, so our DJ Alex get everybody on it to dance until late hours.

A very nice idea was, to get the whole group of guests on a boats-tour in the morning, enjoying the breeze of the water and visit the jewel of Lake Maggiore with a guided tour in german language through the famous Palazzo Borromeo on the island Isola Bella. The bride obviously not joined the excursion as she had to prepare with hairdresser and cosmetic preparations as well get dressed.

So this was not just a wedding, but – having joined the very rustic get together the evening before and a sunny brunch the morning after – a very nicely organized 3-day-event to enjoy the guests with local curiosities.

Britta Hartmann-De Marchi is german and therefore the specialist for German, Austrian and Swiss couples coming to the lake Region for getting married.

She herself got married 10 years ago and choose an Italian husband. When they came over for their visit to choose the right venue for their wedding Lucy fell in love with the wonderful spot of Villa Bossi in Orta, an ideal venue for an outdoor civil ceremony.
For their reception Lucy and Mike wanted something different and for this reason they opted for Lake Maggiore and its wonderful clear waters.

Let’s start from the beginning!
Lucy and Mike’s guests were not many they decided to stay in Stresa the gem of Lake Maggiore overlooking Borromeo Islands.
It is just there where Lucy got ready.
At the right time all were ready to reach Lake Orta for a wonderful ceremony at Villa Bossi.
Lucy arrived a little later to get on the boat and reach Mike and guests waiting for her.

Flower decorations were studied by La Piccola Selva and as usual they were just perfect!
Lucy wanted a simple yet elegant scheme based mainly on white and green and
her favorite flowers: Lysianthis and Orchids.
The bouquet had a touch of purple that made the bride even more special.

After a moving ceremony and some pictures in the charming and very Italian setting of Lake Orta the whole group left Orta to reach Lake Maggiore.

Here’s the surprise!
A boat in Stresa was waiting for them to take the group to Isola Bella for stunning pictures in the park and by the palace!
A wonderful and unique setting for wedding pictures.
Photos were taken by Enrico Mocci by ArtefotoArona and his staff and they are all beautiful and romantic!
But the surprises are not finished.

After the tour on Isola Bella a bigger boat took the group for a wonderful tour on Lake Maggiore with a rich and delicious aperitif on board.

The tour ended to the lovely Restaurant Verbano on Pescatori Island where a private royal table was waiting for Lucy and Mike’s reception.

They both came from United States and chose to celebrate their special day on Lake Como a real dream!
They enjoyed the whole day, from ceremony to final dancing party, in this gorgeous villa, a wonderful setting to make this day even more special.
The villa has a wide terraced garden that allow you the possibility to personalize it as you prefer on a special day like your wedding could be.

Jennifer and Theodore exchanged their marriage vows on a big terrace. Mountains sprang from the waters offering a perfect and romantic background for the ceremony.
Jennifer reached her moved groom walking on a soft aisle covered with petals and then, under a gorgeous arch full of red coral flowers, they promised each other eternal love.

After the ceremony they took wonderful pictures on another part of the terrace, which gives a different, but absolutely amazing, point of view of the lake.
A very special thank to Photo27 photographers Diego and Estella who have been simply gorgeous!

The aperitif and light cocktail was served on a green meadow among secular trees giving the chance to bride and groom to mingle with their guests.
After that the group reached area of the garden arranged for the dinner.

Every wedding has a theme and Jennifer and Theodore chose a really original one!
They decided to put on each table a bowl with two goldfishes inside to represent their love and Theodore’s passion for fishing. A sweet and lovely idea!

The dinner buffet was delighted by a band, that emphasized with romantic music the most touching moments of the evening, like the cake cut or the dance between the groom and his mother.

The venue continued cheerfully till late night with wild dances and many toasts!!

And then the two goldfishes Jennifer and Theodore left the party to finally start their lives as Husband and Wife!
Congratulations guys and may your life be perfect just like your wedding day!

Britta from Creative Wedding – Italian Lakes Wedding tries to explain what a wedding planner needs to know to give good advice and a first cost overview.

It is always nice to get the emails from a future bride or groom, so I am excited and want to start immediately to write back to them with millions of ideas I have in my head.
But before writing back, it is necessary to review what this new couple did write about their expectations and wishes for their big day.

The more information I get from a couple, the more focused and precise tips and advices I can tell them. Let me explain what is important to know:

BUDGET

An approximate budget together with an approximate number of guests is helpful to understand which region of Italy maybe right and what kind of location is affordable. It is clear to me that you have no exact figures as you are only at a starting point. But still some approximate thoughts you made for yourself and this is helpful for me to think what to propose.
Do not be afraid to ask for a low budget wedding, there are certainly possibilities for each kind of budget!

STYLE AND AMBIENCE

I am sure that you already had first looks into wedding magazines or you were always dreaming of your big day. So if you tell me about those ideas and dreams, about colours, about the ambience, about friends and family and what they expect from you, this helps to understand if your budget can match this or what would be suitable alternatives to get near your dreams.

REGION OF ITALY

If you have certain memories of a special region of Italy, tell them please. So I do understand better, why you choose certain landscapes, cities, cultures and can develop them together with my proposals.

CIVIL OR CHURCH WEDDING

when I ask about citizenship or the background of your religion, this is not meant to be curious.
But different nationalities have different ways of preparation for the burocracy for a civil wedding here in Italy. And for the church weddings, as we mainly have catholic churches in Italy with quite a strong link to Rome and the Pope, it is important to know where you are coming from. Mainly the catholic parishes in Italy ask for bride AND groom to be catholic, only sometimes it is possible to have a catholic wedding with one partner being of another religion.

DATE

Even if you have no idea yet for a scheduled date for your wedding, think about the several months and the surrounding you want to have for your wedding. It is not only summertime that is enjoyable in Italy, winter weddings in the mountains can be big fun, april and may are fantastic and already lots of sun, autumn like September and October can be still very warm but less touristy than mid-summer.

GUESTS

Number of guests obviously is very important to know to focus on the suitable locations and hotels. But as well what kind of guests are coming. Is it more a formal group of family and lots of business partners, in this case you surely want to make good impression with food and location. Is it a more friend-oriented party, so we focus on having fun, possibilities for late party and not to elegant and too-good-behaviour-places. With these informations I may better propose the right locations for you.

Italian Lakes Wedding Team now is happy to provide you the official rates of Balbianello Villa.
We tried to be the most exhaustive we could but please feel free to contact us if you find something not clear or if you may need additional details.

Balbianello is one of the most beautiful and unspoiled Villas of the area reachable by boat thus giving your guests the opportunity of living a “different” experience.
FAI (Fondo Ambiente Italiano – Italian Environment Fund) preserves the most important Italian monumental Villas and gardens and it manages Villa del Balbianello too. It has agreed us the permission to use the Villa for our events.

We hope you will appreciate the uniqueness of this amazing setting and stunning view as much as we do!
The breath-taking ceremony can be celebrated outdoor overlooking the lake. At Villa del Balbianello can be performed civil legally blessing ceremonies from Monday to Saturday (never on Sunday) Villa del Balbianello offers the opportunity of using the venue for:

• Only the ceremony (max 2 hours staying).
• Ceremony + aperitif / cocktail (max 3 hours staying).
• Ceremony + complete reception (max 6 hours staying) with option of extending the time till 2am at an extra fee charge.

Depending on the guests number, ceremony can be celebrated on the Terrace (small groups) or under the Loggia (bigger groups).
For groups smaller than 50 guests, the ceremony can be celebrated also while the Villa is still open to tourists (this option is cheaper than having the Villa in exclusive). This means in the afternoon, earlier than 6pm.
For groups of 50 persons and over, ceremonies are only allowed when the Villa is closed to public visitors (this has a higher cost) and therefore with the Villa in exclusive.

The Villa is available at exclusive use:
• On Monday and Wednesday at any time starting from early afternoon (these are Balbianello closing days).
• Every day after 6pm (on Sunday only symbolic ceremonies).

The rental fees of Villa del Balbianello depend on the guests’ number attending the wedding / event.

PRICE LIST 2011

CEREMONY (symbolic or civil) – (only rental fee – max 2 hours staying):
• Up to 20 guests Euros 1.200 + 21% vat with the Villa still open to visitors, € 1.700 + 21% vat on Monday and Wednesday with Villa closed (after 6pm), Euros 4000 + 21% vat on Saturday.

For symbolic ceremonies please consider the following extra costs:
• Celebrant fee (from 400 up to 700 Euros + 21% vat).

The Villa is available until maximum Midnight – this is only if you have here both ceremony + reception – but can be available until 2am paying an extra fee of Euros 2.000 + 21% vat.

The menus are from 170 / 200 + 21% vat per person, this cost is on top to all the other fees above mentioned (please consider it just as an indication since the catering quote depends on many different factors such as guests number, season, day of the week etc…).

IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Villa del Balbianello has only two small indoor rooms (Library and Cartographer room) available in case of bad weather or particular requests. These rooms are one opposite to the other, at the two sides of the Loggia.

The use of these 2 rooms is subject to the following costs:
• The two rooms are both available only on Monday and Wednesday.
• During the other days it’s only available one or the other at your choice.

The costs are:
• The costs are upon request.
• Dinner under the Loggia (which is the only roof covered place of the Villa) is only allowed for groups of maximum 45 guests.
  For groups of max 70 guests this is only accepted on Monday and Wednesday.
  Also with small groups, marquee is necessary to create the ceremony space and dancing space repaired from rain.
  Over 45 guests / or 70 guests the dinner is served in the Gardens where it’s mandatory to put a marquee with floor.
• The cost of the marquee goes from 12.000 Euros (for small groups) up to Euros 35.000 + 21% vat.

• Balbianello doesn’t offer any type of accommodations.
• Balbianello is open only from mid March to mid November
• Balbianello is only reachable by boat, therefore there are extra costs for the transfers to and from the Villa.
  We would like to suggest another opportunity too.

We can also advise to use this wonderful spot of Lake Como as an amazing set for your wedding pictures. In this case we could arrange for you the ceremony and reception somewhere else on the lake and then let you reach Villa del Balbianello afterward with a boat tour for your wedding pictures. This will involve a smaller budget but will let you enjoy the beauty of Villa del Balbianello anyway.

• Cost for photography set for photographer and bride and groom to the villa is 100 euro.

You can also decide to involve your guests in this tour letting appreciate the beauty of Villa del Balbianello too. Rate will be only entrance ticket.

Only Gardens:
• ADULTS: € 6,00
• CHILDREN (4-12 YEARS): € 3,00

Gardens + Villa:
Visit with guide mandatory, groups of max 15 persons each turn, duration of 60 minutes:
• ADULTS: € 12,00
• CHILDREN (4-12 YEARS): € 7,00
