One in ten celebrations is now a destination wedding. Destination weddings are a growing trend, more stylish than ever before, offering the opportunity to whisk loved ones away to an unforgettable paradise.
Getting married in a different country offers you the possibility to mix your own culture with local customs creating your very own special atmosphere.

A celebration abroad should span at least three days, creating a memorable holiday for the bride and groom and all their friends.
As most of your guests might take the opportunity to organise a short holiday around the event, it is good practice to arrange welcome drinks in the late afternoon or early evening prior to the day of the ceremony. An informal brunch or a fun activity for the following day is much appreciated as well.

With its beautiful art, its superb landscape and its fascinating traditions, Italy represents the essence of romanticism, a combination of antique splendour and innovative style that can add a touch of unforgettable elegance to any celebrations.
The superior quality of the food and the fine wine are two additional elements that can certainly help to create a perfect event.

Tuscany is so last century! Follow in George Clooney’s gorgeous footsteps and make the most of the fashionable Italian lakes. This area is famed for its natural beauty, its centuries of history and its delicious cuisine.
The four north Italian lakes of Como, Orta, Maggiore and Garda have long been a popular getaway for European aristocracy. Their legacy is beautiful lakeside Baroque castles and renaissance villas with manicured gardens, all of which are perfect settings for elegant and classy events.

Yes, it is. A marriage certificate will be issued by the local town hall after the celebration. This will then be sent to your national consulate for registration.

A civil ceremony will be in Italian with a translator. A religious ceremony can be in Italian and/or in your own language, if you can find a minister that speaks it.

May and September tend to be the best months. July and August can be rather hot with temperatures of 30+C, while April and October can sometimes be a bit chilly. Winter periods are slightly colder but prices are lower and locations are not so crowded… a good alternative to the busy warmer months.

We would suggest you start planning your wedding in Italy 9 -12 months in advance, depending on the size and typology of the event. The first stage is to find a venue (and a church for a religious wedding) and secure the date as many places get booked quite fast, especially during peak season.

In order to give your guests enough time to get organised, we would recommend sending a save the date card six months in advance, enabling them to benefit from cheaper flight and hotel fares. The formal invite should then be sent three months prior to the date of the wedding.

Each airline has its own restrictions regarding size and weight. If you are not allowed to carry your luggage in the cabin we would suggest that you contact the Ground Services crew for the airport concerned. They usually offer a service where, for a fee, staff will escort you through security and have your items placed in the hold as you arrive at the aircraft, which will then be removed and given to you as you get off the plane at the other end.

An overseas wedding calls for an authentic menu! We would not worry about this, as Italian cuisine offers a wide variety of dishes to meet the needs and taste of your guests.

This all depends on the scale of your celebration and on the location you have chosen. If you are arranging everything yourself, we would recommend budgeting for at least three trips, one to select the venue, another one mid-way to approve the menus and select suppliers, a third one closer to the date to ensure that everything is ready and working as planned.

A good way to approach this is to enclose a note with the save-the-date card providing information on the local area, travel and accommodation to help your guests planning the trip. You may list hotels in a variety of price brackets, information on the location and details of the closest airports.

We would suggest getting a wedding insurance before you travel. This will cover you for an overseas ceremony and/or reception as if it were taking place in your own country (e.g. if it has to be cancelled through illness). It normally does not cover things such as baggage loss, this is why you should also get a travel insurance.
